As part of DDL’s support for researchers at all stages of their careers, the conference includes awards presentations not only for established OINDP scientists, but also for early-career and mid-career researchers. Mike Hindle of Virginia Commonwealth University has been selected as the winner of the 2024 DDL Annual Lecture, which is described as “a prestigious accolade bestowed on individuals who have contributed much to the field of respiratory science.” On the first day, Hindle will present his lecture on the topic of “Delivering aerosols to premature infants, a most challenging and precious patient: Accelerating development using realistic airway models.”
The winner of the DDL Emerging Scientist Award for “significant scientific accomplishment or innovation during the early stages of an individual’s career in inhalation science” will be announced on the second day, and the winner will then present a lecture highlighting their research. Later that day, the Pat Burnell Young Investigator Award session will feature oral poster presentations by 6 early career researchers.
The rest of his year’s scientific program includes sessions on:
- Transition to New Propellants – Current Solution and Future Threat
- Inhalation Across the Ages
- Gene Therapy and Biologics for the Lungs
- Advances In Nasal Drug Delivery
- Developing Inhalation Technology – Lessons Learnt and Current Innovations
The program includes numerous opportunities for networking, including a welcome reception, lunches, and refreshment breaks, as well as the gala dinner. The DDL New Researcher Network (NRN) has also scheduled two networking events on the first day of DDL 2024 that are open to early career researchers and PhD students. At lunchtime, the group will hold a “networking game session,” and an evening reception will feature drinks, snacks, and speakers.
