Other award talks will include a lecture by the winner of the DDL2023 Emerging Scientist Award and the annual Pat Burnell Young Investigator Award session, which will feature oral poster presentations by 5 finalists. Dawson says that the committee received almost 30 submissions for the Pat Burnell Award competition this year, making selection of the finalists a difficult job.
The remaining scientific program sessions include:
- Digital Technologies
- Novel Formulations and Process Technology
- Emerging Therapeutics
- Future Challenges and Opportunities
Dawson notes that “sustainability is still absolutely at the core of the conference,” and the program includes talks on the new lower-GWP propellants. She cites the use of inhaled antibiotics and gene therapies, as well as systemic delivery, as some of the other trends in OINDPs represented in the program. Another highlight, she says, is the return of the “What on Earth” talk; in this year’s “What on Earth” titled “Have impinger, will travel!”, Lea Ann Dailey of the University of Vienna will talk about the Imptox project “to investigate the relationship among micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) and allergic diseases.”
The Association of Inhalation Toxicologists (AIT) will present a half-day workshop on the morning of December 6, prior to the start of the DDL program. The workshop “represents an opportunity to bring together members of the scientific community across industry and academia to review the methods used for in vitro screening and mechanistic studies, preclinical efficacy and safety study designs and endpoints, and regulatory toxicology.” Registration for this workshop is separate from DDL registration, is free for students, and costs £50 for academic / industry delegates.
The DDL 2023 exhibition will feature a couple of new opportunities for delegates, including the chance to visit with companies that have never had a presence at DDL before; a significant number of first-time exhibitors will be among the ~115 companies showing off products and promoting their services in the exhibition hall. And, for the first time, delegates who would like additional information from an exhibitor will be able to provide their contact info through the conference app.
