RDD Europe 2023, organized by RDD Online and Aptar Pharma, returns to Antibes, France, May 2-5 at the Palais des Congrès Antipolis. Richard Dalby of RDD Online says that conference center (previously called the Palais des Congrès Antibes) proved popular with attendees at RDD Europe 2015 and 2017, which took place at the same venue. Dalby expects that attendance will be similar to the 2017 meeting that drew approximately 450 OINDP specialists, with some delegates attending virtually and the vast majority on site in Antibes.
As always, the program includes a Posters on the Podium session, a workshop session, and a poster exhibition, all organized under the system of “Knowledge Spaces” that was introduced in 2021. Dalby expects that the organizers will publish details of the speakers and presentations within the next few weeks at https://www.rddonline.com/rddeurope2023/program and notes that sustainability is once again a hot topic, with particular interest in advances in DPIs and potential new MDI propellants.
The Knowledge Spaces for RDD Europe 2023 are:
- From Bench to Bedside
- Aqueous Agenda – Navigating Nasal
- Building a Sustainable Future
- Inspiring Dry Powder Inhalation
- Advanced Inhalation: Data Driven Design
Both virtual and in-person delegates will be able to ask questions of presenters and expert panels during podium presentations thanks to the meeting technology. Registered delegates will be able to access selected content starting April 25, and recordings of the podium presentations, poster presentations, and workshops will also be available for some time after the end of the meeting.
During the workshop session on the afternoon of May 3, delegates will have the opportunity to attend up to 3 workshops in person and will be able to view recorded versions of other workshops online.
Workshops include:
- Aptar Pharma, “Accelerating And De-risking The Development Of Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) pMDIs”
- Catalent and Proveris Scientific, “Synergies of Inhalation Product Development and Spray Characterization”
- Fluidda, “Functional Respiratory Imaging: A Tool to Understand Regional Airway Exposure to Inhaled Drugs as Part of the Regulatory Process for Complex Generics”
- Honeywell, “HFO-1234ze(e): Adopting A Low-GWP Propellant For Metered Dose Inhalers”
- Intertek, “Navigating New Technologies for Inhaled Product Development to Meet the Challenges of Small and Large Molecules”
- Recipharm, “An Overview of Lipid Nanoparticle Based mRNA Formulations for Inhaled Delivery”
Other workshops include, “Integrated Development for Capsule-based DPIs – Solving New Challenges”; “From Rapid Feasibility to Sustainable Products: Identifying the Right Inhalation Delivery System for Your Drug”; “Dry Powder Dosing of APIs: An Alternative Filling Technique for pMDIs”; “Spray-drying Process Considerations for Inhaled Biotherapeutic Dry Powders”; “In Vitro Epithelial Models to Aid Nasal & Pulmonary Product Development”; and “Addressing Analytical Challenges in Inhaled Product Development.”
As usual, delegates will have the opportunity to network during refreshment breaks and lunches in the exhibition area, as well as a welcome reception on the evening of May 2 and a gala dinner on the evening of May 4.
Dalby expects that approximately 60 posters will be available to view, and about 60 companies will be promoting their products and services in the technology exhibition. He notes that the meeting may still be able to accommodate a few more exhibitors if companies contact organizers soon. Exhibitors currently scheduled for RDD Europe 2023 include:
