German digital health company VisionHealth has announced that it will “cooperate on distribution of inhalation platform Kata” with Boehringer Ingelheim in Germany. The Kata app uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology in conjunction with the patient’s smartphone camera to provide interactive inhaler use coaching. The company says that the app can be used with approximately three quarters of inhalation devices on the market.
Boehringer Ingelheim Head of Human Pharma, Germany, Martin Beck said, “The innovative Kata app is an ideal addition to Boehringer Ingelheim’s broad inhalation portfolio, and will guarantee patients receive best guidance when using their inhalation devices, thus ensuring active ingredients reach the lungs.”
VisionHealth CEO Sabine Häussermann commented, “With 100 years of experience in treating lung diseases, Boehringer Ingelheim is a world leader in respiratory diseases. We are excited and proud to work with such a strong partner to commercialize our Kata app in Germany.”
At DDL 2021, Häussermann described the app and the potential benefits of artificial intelligence in respiratory drug delivery during her presentation of the annual DDL Lecture. Her talk, titled “Digitalization in respiratory medicine, where are we heading to?”, is available on the DDL web site.
