RDD 2022 (May 1-5 in Orlando, Florida) will be the first major OINDP meeting to take place primarily in person since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Richard Dalby of RDD Online, organizers of the Respiratory Drug Delivery conferences, attendees at RDD 2022 in Orlando will find all of the features of RDD meetings they are accustomed to, including scientific presentations and posters, a technology exhibit, award presentations, and networking opportunities.
In March 2020, the organizers scrambled to move RDD 2020 to a digital format when it became clear that the pandemic would prevent meeting in person in California as originally planned. Both Digital RDD 2020 and RDD 2021 took place fully online, with the latter meeting adding live content and introducing a program structure based on “Knowledge spaces” to help attendees access the content most relevant to them as easily as possible.
RDD 2022 will retain the Knowledge Spaces concept, with the content for the scientific program sorted into these themes:
- Focus on Therapeutics
- Aqueous Advances
- Project Green MDI
- Spotlight Nasal
- Designing DPIs – Perfecting Powders
- Regulatory, Science & Technology Innovation (Co-organized with IPAC-RS)
In addition to sessions based around those topics, the program includes a Posters on the Podium session, a workshop session, and a poster exhibition that is expected to include approximately 80 posters. Details of the speakers and presentations are expected to be released within the next few weeks.
During the workshop session on the afternoon of May 3, delegates will have the opportunity to attend up to 3 of the 12 in-person 60-minute workshops offered by a variety of vendors. In addition, recorded versions of the workshops will be accessible to all registered delegates beginning on April 25 through June 30. Workshops will be offered by: Aptar Pharma, Catalent, DH Industries, H&T Presspart, Intertek, Kindeva Drug Delivery, Koura, Lonza Small Molecules, MedPharm, Perlen Packaging, Proveris Scientific, and Recipharm.
The program will also include many features familiar to attendees at past in-person RDD meetings, including presentations of the Charles G. Thiel Award and the VCU RDD Peter R. Byron Graduate Student Award; the Wednesday morning break for recreation; and plenty of opportunities to visit the poster and technology exhibitions. Networking opportunities include refreshment breaks and lunches during the day and cocktail receptions each evening, including a welcome reception on the evening of May 1, and a dinner with dancing following the reception on the evening of May 4.
