Medical propellant maker Koura announced that it has donated 10,000 MDIs to the government of the Indian state of Maharashtra to help meet the demand for inhalers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, the company said that the inhalers are designated for the Haffkine Institute in Mumbai.
Koura also announced that it has won the Chemicals Northwest 2020 Innovation Award for Zephex 152a MDI propellant, which has a global warming potential 90% less than that of HFA 134a. Koura recently announced that a new Zephex 152a manufacturing facility in Runcorn, UK is expected to be in operation by late 2021, and earlier this year, the company said that it was planning a clinical trial of 152a.
Koura Pharma General Manager Simon Gardner commented, “Bringing Zephex 152a to this point has been years in the making with numerous teams and individuals all contributing. We’re especially pleased that the work put in has been recognized and the innovative approach to finding environmentally sustainable products to help maintain patient choice has been acknowledged. It is an honor to have this award.”
According to the company, 80% of MDIs worldwide use Koura’s range of Zephex propellants.
