Members of the OINDP community are remembering inhalation expert Ola Nerbrink, who passed away on June 1, 2019. He was the CEO of Respiron Consulting, which he founded in 2009, and VP of Business Development at the Medicon Valley Inhalation Consortium (MVIC), where he had served as CEO from 2014 to 2017. In 2017, he also took a position as Senior Sales Advisor for Inhalation Sciences.
Ola Nerbrink worked in inhaled drug and device development for almost 35 years, beginning in 1985 when he joined AstraZeneca in Lund, Sweden as a Principal Scientist; his 18-year stint at AstraZeneca included 4 years as the head of an inhalation delivery systems group. Following AstraZeneca, he moved to Novo Nordisk in Hilleröd, Denmark, where he was responsible for aerosol characterization facilities. From 2011 to 2013, while providing consulting services to the inhaled drug industry through Respiron, he also served as Deputy Director of the Swedish Defense Agency, responsible for aerosol defense research.
His contributions to the field of inhaled pharmaceuticals over the years included membership in the European Pharmaceutical Aerosol Group (EPAG), the International Pharmaceutical Aerosol Consortium on Regulation & Science (IPAC-RS) and the Swedish and Danish standardization organizations as well as the publication of numerous papers.
Many members of the inhalation community posted remembrances on LinkedIn, where Merxin Chief Business Officer Philippe Rogueda wrote, “Ola was great fun to be with, kind, inquisitive and creative. I had the pleasure to be his junior colleague at AstraZeneca years ago. His work on nebulisers and inhaled therapies was seminal and is often referred to. Laterly as CEO of MVIC, he helped to further the work of the consortium with flair and success.”
