The technology exhibition featured 70 companies promoting their latest products and services, including some last-minute additions. Aptar’s Penot said, “We have had a demand for exhibition tables up to the end of last week, with people calling and saying, ‘We really want to be here; we really need to be at RDD Europe,’ so we’re really pleased.”
Connected devices continued to be a major topic of conversation at this meeting, with numerous exhibitors showing off their connected devices in the exhibition hall in addition to a session titled “Re-inventing Inhalers for the Digital Age,” several workshops addressing the topic, including one from Aptar Pharma and Propeller Health on “The Future of Connected Medicines: Promise and Potential Pitfalls.”
For the most part, the devices on display in the exhibition have been previously introduced, including connected and/or connectable devices from 3M DDS, Aptar, H&T Presspart, and HC Med. Other companies were showing off systems for use in electronic inhalers, including new exhibitor Sensirion’s “world’s smallest flow sensor” and a DCA sensor that can monitor inhaler orientation and other parameters.
Several of the exhibitors have made news recently, including Copley Scientific and Novi Systems, which exhibited for the first time after the April 2019 announcement of Novi’s acquisition by Copley.
Intertek Melbourn, which announced the opening of a new facility for inhaled drug and biologics development just before the start of the meeting, fielded numerous inquiries about its new capabilities. And Recipharm, which acquired Sanofi’s UK inhalation contract manufacturing business in 2018, announced the launch of a new integrated inhalation services program during the meeting.
