Aptar Pharma has announced that GSK’s Otrivin xylometazoline nasal spray, which is delivered via Aptar’s Freepod multidose nasal spray pump, won a 2019 WorldStar Packaging Award in the Medical & Pharma category. The WorldStar Packaging Awards, given by the World Packaging Organization, “are based on the judges’ consensus that a pack is superior in its category and market and better in its class in execution or innovation by comparison to others.”
The Freepod nasal pump, which is used only by GSK, was recognized for its sustainability. According to GSK, the CO2 impact per shipping pallet is 20% less than with the pump used prior to the Freepod (4.140kg, vs 6.420 kg). The Freepod is comprised of 7 components compared to 11 in standard nasal pumps, according to the awards site, and is delivered to GSK as a single component.
Aptar Pharma VP of Global Account Management Howard Burnett commented, “We congratulate GlaxoSmithKline on this prestigious WorldStar Packaging Award win. At Aptar Pharma, we’re very proud that our patented Freepod technology has been recognized with GlaxoSmithKline’s Otrivin as a deserving winner in the Medical & Pharma category of the WorldStar Packaging Award.”
