The poster and industry exhibition spaces will be more integrated this year and will extend out of the exhibition hall into the corridor leading to the auditorium in order to accommodate the growing numbers of posters and over 90 exhibitors. According to committee member Ben Forbes, more than 100 poster abstracts were submitted.
Both the quality and quantity of poster abstract submissions have increased over the past few years, Haywood says, including submissions for the Pat Burnell New Investigator Award, making the selection process especially difficult this year. As a result, the number of finalists for the Pat Burnell Award has been increased from 5 to 6 for DDL 2017.
In addition to the Pat Burnell New Investigator Award presentation session, this year’s session topics include:
- inhaled therapy in special populations
- Emerging therapeutics and novel respiratory medicines
- Inhalation devices and aerosol science
- Modeling and simulations in inhalation science
One additional talk of interest will be an “EMA Update on Quality Guideline on Inhalation and Nasal Products” by Claudia Vincenzi, the EMA topic lead for the quality of inhalation products.
For the second year, registration for the DDL conference is free for students, and the registration fee for academic and industry researchers remains reasonable, Forbes notes, explaining, “We have a focus on the science of aerosol medicine, so we try to keep the costs down to keep it accessible to scientists.”
