H&T Presspart and Cohero Health have officially launched the eMDI connected metered dose inhaler (eMDI), which integrates with Cohero Health’s BreatheSmart inhaler tracking and lung function measurement platform. The two companies initially announced the eMDI project at RDD in April 2016.
The eMDI contains embedded sensors that record inhaler usage in addition to a mechanical dose counter. The device has Bluetooth functionality, allowing data to be transferred securely via the BreatheSmart app to healthcare providers and caregivers.
In addition, data from Cohero Health’s hand held wireless mSpirometer can be combined with data from the eMDI in real time in order to analyze the effectiveness of inhaled medications.
According to the companies, the eMDI is compatible with all standard valves and canisters and does not impact delivery of the medication.
H&T Presspart CEO Peter Schmelze commented, “In designing the eMDI, our mission was to help pharmaceutical companies bring the best possible care to patients in an intuitive device in the fastest time and most cost-efficient way.”
Cohero Health Co-Founder and CEO Mellissa Manice added, “We have thus combined the design of the world’s most widely used and established inhaler technology with the only respiratory platform that gives a complete and objective picture of how a patient is responding to treatment between reviews.”
