ASTM International’s Subcommittee on Characterization and Handling of Powders and Bulk Solids has published a new standard titled “Standard Test Method for Shear Testing of Powders using the Freeman Technology FT4 Powder Rheometer Shear Cell.”
The Freeman Technology FT4 instrument is used for characterization of powders, including the optimization of dry powder inhaler formulations, and the new standard, ASTM D7891, describes methods for determining various parameters, including cohesion, shear stresses, and flow function.
Freeman Technology Managing Director Tim Freeman commented, “Shear cell testing is a robust and well-established technique that complements the multivariate approach employed by the FT4. The new ASTM standard acknowledges our approach to powder characterization and recognizes the need for reliable and clearly defined methodologies that provide comprehensive and valuable information.”
