Hosokawa Micron introduces lab blender for DPI formulation development

Hosokawa Micron has introduced the Mini Cyclomix lab mixer for use in development of dry powder formulations for inhalation, the company announced. According to the company, the lab-sized blender is designed to disperse API in a lactose carrier while minimizing the energy imparted in order to avoid affecting aerosolization.

The lab blender is a smaller version of the Cyclomix high shear impact mixer, which is available in a version adapted for DPI formulation blending of batches up to 1000 L and which Hosokawa Micron says “can disperse the active ingredients in the lactose filler exactly, so that the active ingredients will be released during inhalation.”

Mixing speed for the Mini Cyclomix can be varied, and the interchangeable 0.1, 1, or 2 L bowls can be filled and discharged offline, if necessary. The user interface is a touch panel with recipe management, data logging and data export.
