The 19th Congress of the International Society for Aerosols in Medicine (ISAM) will take place April 6-10 in the city known as the “Southern Part of Heaven”: Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Organizers expect that up to 350 OINDP specialists from academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and medicine will attend the congress and/or the three optional pre-conference workshops.
According to Congress President Bill Bennett, the ISAM Congress offers a unique opportunity for interaction between aerosol drug developers, medical and pharmaceutical researchers, practitioners, and regulatory experts. He estimates that approximately half of the delegates will come from the US and about half from Europe and other regions.
“We take pride on being on the forefront of cutting edge research,” notes Bennett “and we think that the topics for the symposia this year are particularly attractive.” In particular, he cites a symposium on “In Vitro/In Vivo Assessment of Inhaled Drugs: Science and Regulatory Issues for Consideration” and a pre-congress workshop titled,”Inhaling Nanoparticles by Accident and on Purpose-Challenges and Opportunities for Toxicology and Therapeutics.”
The pre-congress workshops on April 6, which also include “The Basics of Aerosol Technology for Respiratory Drug Delivery” and “Enhancing Accordance between Outcomes of Laboratory and Clinical Testing of Orally Inhaled Drug Products,” are available either for stand-alone registration (without congress registration) or with registration for the congress for an additional fee. Attendance for each of these workshops is limited to 125 attendees.
On Sunday, April 7, the congress will open officially with the first of 13 paper sessions. Session topics for the conference range from “Aerosol Delivery of Biotherapeutics” to “Advances in Biomarkers for Assessing Efficacy of Aerosol Therapies” to “Improving Patient Adherence/Compliance for Inhaled Therapies.”
