Discovery Laboratories has named John G. Cooper as President and CEO replacing W. Thomas Amick, who had been chairman of the board since March 2007 and CEO since October 2010. Cooper was Executive VP and CFO from 2002-2010 and has served as President and CFO since in 2010. He will continue as CFO.
The company has also appointed John R. Leone chairman of the board and Joseph M. Mahady as a member of the board. Dr. Max Link and Dr. Antonio Esteve have resigned from the board.
Earlier this week, Discovery Labs initiated a launch of its Afectair device for the delivery of aerosolized medications to infants on ventilatory support. The company is also developing an aerosolized KL4 surfactant called Aerosurf and says that it expects Phase 2 trials to begin in the second half of 2013.
