Copley introducing new breath simulator

Copley Scientific will be introducing its new BRS 3000 breath simulator for the testing of metered dose inhalers (MDIs) and dry powder inhalers (DPIs) at RDD 2012. The company previously introduced its BRS 2000 breath simulator for nebulisers at ISAM 2011. According to the company, “The BRS 3000 allows users to precisely define and apply breathing profiles that mimic those of the patient during inhaler use. This enables the exploration of DPI and MDI performance under test conditions that more accurately reflect in-use situations.”

The new BRS 3000 has a higher maximum flow rate and a higher maximum flow rate acceleration than does the nebulizer version of the breath simulator. The MDI/DPI version also has an inhalation volume of up to 5 liters compared to 1 liter for the BRS 2000. Both versions offer users the opportunity to use different waveforms, including standard sinusoidal, rectangular and triangular waveforms, plus user-defined profiles. Breath volume, breaths per minute, breathing duration, and inhalation/exhalation ration can be adjusted for all of the standard waveforms.
